Chris Spitzer is the quantum program manager at Berkeley Lab and operations lead for the Advanced Quantum Testbed. Previously he served as a program officer in UC Research Initiatives at the UC Office of the President, where he managed grant-making programs in the physical sciences and engineering, including the Laboratory Fees Research Program and Multicampus Research Programs and Initiatives. Chris has held several policy-related Fellowships, including an AIP Congressional Fellowship in the U.S. Senate and an AAAS S&T Policy Fellowship in the State Department. He has also held an APS Mass Media Fellowship in science journalism. In addition, he co-founded Engineers and Scientists Acting Locally, a non-profit focused on civic engagement where he still acts as director of content. Chris holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Washington and bachelor’s degrees in physics and EECS from UC Berkeley.
