Previous Work

In March 2016, I received my M.Sc. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Irvine (UCI). The subject of my thesis was the numerical study of the effects of static electric fields on the chemistry and fluid dynamics of an impinging coflow flame, using the open source OpenFOAM software; this research was funded by the NASA ACME "E-FIELD Flames" Project.

In July 2013, I earned a M.Sc. in Space Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy. I did my thesis at UCI, in the Laser, Flames & Aerosols Lab under the supervision of Prof. Derek Dunn-Rankin; the topic of my research was the combustion process of methane hydrates. The challenge was to understand the interaction between chemistry and thermodynamics in such compounds, which were modelled as a non premixed counterflow flame; an analysis of flammability limits and transition to extinguishment was performed using CANTERA.
