Jon Bashor developed and leads the Computing Sciences Communications Group, which supports to the Computing Sciences Directorate, NERSC, ESnet and the Computational Research Division by writing news articles, creating and maintaining web content, developing communications programs, distributing newsletters and providing communications counsel. He has developed and implemented outreach programs with Richmond's Kennedy High School, Albany High and Oakland Tech. Jon also serves as a communications volunteer for related conferences, including the annual SC conference in the U.S., the International Supercomputing Conference in Germany, and the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference.
Jon joined Berkeley Lab in 1997 after six years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he was editor of Newsline, the weekly lab newspaper. He also worked more than eight years as a daily newspaper reporter for the San Francisco Examiner, Contra Costa Times, Richmond Independent and Berkeley Gazette. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Cal State Bakersfield and a master's in journalism from UC Berkeley.
