SIAM Diversity Day Events

Diversity Day Lunch - Conversations with Scientists
As in previous workshops, the lunch plays an important part in the workshop. The Diversity Day luncheon gives the workshop participants an opportunity to network with distinguished mathematicians and invited SIAM members. At lunch, participants will be seated in small groups (tables of 8-10), to encourage conversation. The topics discussed in previous lunches covered a wide range of topics, for example, “What courses should I take?”, “Why should I get a Ph.D.?”, and “What's it like to be an applied mathematician in industry?”

Panel Discussion - Integration over Time
The panel members will discuss various issues regarding diversity and share their personal perspectives regarding what diversity has meant in the past, what it means today, and where they think it is going in the future.

Diversity Day Recognition Reception Come join us in special ceremony and reception in recognition to all of those people who have made SIAM Diversity Day throughout the years.

Evening Session - Food for Thought
An informal evening session will be held, to provide an opportunity for students to discuss frankly their professional and personal experiences. In previous meetings, this session brought together distinguished mathematicians from academia and industry who gave a perspective on what it is like to be a minority mathematician and what types of rewards and problems the students could expect as they progress through their professional careers.

SIAM Junior Member Professional Development Evening

The SIAM Junior Member Focus Committee is organizing a session to assist all interested individuals with their career development. There will be short presentations by program officers, followed by a question and answer period.
