Title:
Applying Multi-class Support Vector Classifier to Pattern Analysis Problems: Three Case Studies
Abstract:
This talk discusses the application of support vector classifier and its multi-class extension based on the method of Data-driven Error Correcting Output Coding (DECOC) to several real world problems in scientific and business domains, namely the recognition of cursive numeral images, the classification of tissue phenotype based on gene expressions and the classification of mental tasks based on EEG signal data. Besides demonstrating the increasingly important role of SVC in various data analysis tasks, the case studies also investigate and provide supporting evidence of the feasibility of DECOC as a decomposition-based multiclass classification scheme.
